Ms. Howren has spent the last 18 years in education as an educator, coordinator, interventionist and an educational leader. Born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, she received her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and a Master degree in Education and Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska. Ms. Howren moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 2002, to begin her teaching career at Liberty High School, as a high school English Language Arts teacher for eight years before moving into the role as a Dropout Prevention Coordinator for Liberty Public Schools from 2011-2015. Ms. Howren also received her specialist degree in Educational Leadership K-12 and was named Principal of Fern Ridge Alternative School in the Parkway School District in St. Louis in 2015. When she and her family returned to the Kansas City area, she worked as a behavior interventionist in the North Kansas City School District, and she most recently served as an assistant principal at Center High School in the Center School District. Michelle and her husband Bret have two energetic and active sons, Clayton (12) and Connor (9).
