U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Survivors and Dependents Assistance

DETAILS: There are two main GI Bill programs offering education assistance to survivors and dependents of Veterans: The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship (Fry Scholarship) is available for children and spouses of Servicemembers who died in the line of duty after September 10, 2001. The Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) Program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

Wartime Veterans Survivors Grant Program (Missouri)

DETAILS: This scholarship is offered to one Missouri student who qualifies within the following categories: 1. Is the Son or Daughter of one who has given their life in the line of duty. 2. Is the Son or Daughter of an honorably discharged veteran who has passed after their term of service or 3. Is the Son or Daughter of a veteran or first responder disabled in the line of duty to the extent that providing an advanced education cannot be easily realized.

Coast Guard Foundation Grants & Scholarships

DETAILS: The Coast Guard Foundation administers a variety of grant and scholarship programs designed to benefit the children and spouses of active-duty, retired and deceased Coast Guard personnel. These programs are a combination of need-based and merit-based awards, and include the RADM Arnold I. Sobel Scholarship, the Commander Ronald J. Cantin Scholarship and the Fallen Heroes Scholarship. These and other financial aid programs offer much needed assistance to the children and spouses of Coast Guard service-members who are struggling to meet the rising costs of a college education. Award amounts vary depending on program, school of attendance, academic achievement and financial need.

Fisher House Foundation - Scholarships for Military Children

DETAILS: Funded through the generosity of the Defense Commissary Agency, the Fisher House Foundation awards several Scholarships for Military Children for up to $2,000 a piece to unmarried sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers who will be enrolled full-time in a four-year undergraduate degree program. Eligible applicants must be attending a U.S. accredited institution, be under 23 years old, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
